This free-form drawing started from center, working outward, trying to create symmetry as much as possible.
All patterns are drawn directly from ink - no pre-planning - because the idea is to just work with whatever happens. The only exception with this piece is for symmetry - I did use a compass and draw penciled circles to contain the balance. Other than that, it's an exercise in letting go of over planning and perfection.
Once the ink is all set, I'll come back and add charcoal pencil for shading, giving it a more 3-dimensional feel.
